Adding the opt-out option

According to European Union laws on receiving newsletters, users have the right to decline any further emails being sent to their inbox. For this reason, marketers saw the need for people to be able to decide whether their email account becomes filled with what they may consider SPAM or to “opt-out” of further emails that do not concern them. SALESmanago has a simple way for users to “opt-out” of future emails if they choose to do so.

SETTING AN OPT-OUT LINK IS NECESSARY FOR EMAIL CAMPAIGNS

If a user decides to opt-out from receiving future emails by clicking the opt-out link, they will be automatically removed from the list of recipients. Technically, such a link should be unique for every receiver to make SALESmanago Marketing Automation able to identify the email address of the user who opted out. This function is performed by the opt-out link generator only a few minutes after SALESmanago gets an opt-out notification from a user.

You can easily add an opt-out link with the templates creator. It can be added while creating a template or put directly into a message (provided that the template uses editable fields).

The first step is to make a part of the template hyperlinked, usually at the bottom. To do it, select some text with the left mouse button – in this case, the word “Here”.  Then, make the selected part of the text hyperlinked using the “Insert placeholder” option.

D. ADDING AN OPT-OUT LINK USING HTML

There is also a straightforward way of creating an opt-out link with just HTML. Type $opt-out$ into the code, it should look like this:

<a href="$opt-out$">Opt me out </a>

While sending the message this link is replaced with a real one, redirecting to an opt-out page generated for each recipient individually.

The example link redirects to:

https://www.salesmanago.pl/optOut.htm?uid=a656a1c31-2260-43b8-9c17-815dedcd13b4

Note: That link (see above) will not work correctly if transformed into a template! As a template, a link must be able to redirect to $opt-out$ (it will automatically be replaced with a real link when sending the message). It is advised to make sure that your email opt-out form is set up correctly. By doing so you can avoid unnecessary problems when your clients will be, unsuccessfully, try to opt-out from mailing.

THE OPT-OUT FORM

After clicking the link, a user will be redirected to a specified opt-out page. At this stage they can select one of the following:

  • Do not change my subscription preferences. I still want to receive emails.
  • I want to receive only one email per week.
  • I don’t want to receive emails.
