DKIM key

DKIM is a method that allows for connecting a domain with an email server and it aims at confirming the authenticity of the email address from which the email is sent. It enables the receiver of the message to verify whether it has been authorized by the domain owner. This is to prevent spoofing of the sender’s email address, a phishing and spam tactic.

How does DKIM work?

DKIM lets the domain associate its name with an email by adding a digital signature to it. Verification is based on the public key published in the DNS of the sender’s domain. Valid signature guarantees that email has not been modified after the addition of the digital signature. DKIM signatures are not visible for the receivers and they influence the antispam filters.

How to prepare DKIM in SALESmanago?

  1. Indicate the domain from which the emails will be sent (e.g. mailing. XYZcompany.com) and send this information to the Project Manager in SALESmanago.
  2. Enter the hosting where the domain (or domains) is located.
  3. After the domain is specified, SALESmanago administrators will prepare an individual key that needs to be added to DNS records.

EXAMPLE: In SALESmanago, you have, e.g., three email marketing accounts (shop@companyXYZ.com, newsletter@XYZ.com, shop@mail.companyXYZ.pl). Due to that you can sign more than one domain – this means that every email marketing account set up in SALESmanago can be signed with a DKIM key.

IMPORTANT: Signing the email with the DKIM key will require adding entries to the DNS zone on each domain (in this case on two domains: companyXYZ.com and XYZ.com).

Example keys

A. SPF

Add to your domain the following configuration data:

Domain: yourdomain.com
Record type: TXT
Value: “v=spf1 include:_spf.jupiter.salesmanago.pl -all”

Adding exactly this record allows sending messages only from SALESmanago servers. If you want to send messages with this domain from other services, you should include them in your SPF, by adding directives corresponding to services you are using, specified by other service providers. If there is already another entry in your DNS, that begins with „v=spf1”, you should add include:_spf.jupiter.salesmanago.pl before -all section.

B. DKIM

For DKIM it is necessary to add two CNAME records to your DNS zone, as shown below.

  1. First entry structure

Domain:  salesmanago._domainkey.yourdomain.com
Type: CNAME
Value: salesmanago._domainkey.smgrid.com.

  1. Second entry structure

Domain: salesmanago2._domainkey.yourdomain.com
Type: CNAME
Value: salesmanago2._domainkey.smgrid.com.

IMPORTANT: The providers’ control panels could validate ending dots differently. In case of rejection of entry, you should try again without the ending dots.

When implementing DKIM, we also suggest implementing SPF entries. There is an additional method of authorizing messages that you should configure.
